About My BIMA
‘National award-winning agency’. That has a nice ring to it doesn’t it? I may well be writing this with a slightly jaded head, but also with a very excited head as we all relive the celebrations from last night’s BIMA Awards.
The event took place at the very trendy KOKO club in Camden, with an invitation to ‘dress to impress’ for the evening. We were really chuffed to be shortlisted for Best Mobile Application for the Wheel of Tea and Best Informational Website for About My Vote. The pre-event drinks chit-chat seemed to say ‘we don’t have a chance’ but with an underlying hope that we could be pleasantly surprised. “It’s not about taking part, it’s the winning that counts!” I began wondering what tone my post would have when I came to write it….
So we were greeted with an open bar on arrival as we mingled with our peers. By the time the presentations kicked off, the room was packed and all eyes on the stage. All nominees were asked to head to the ground floor so they could easily reach the stage, but ever the optimists, we opted to stay up on the balcony to enjoy the better view. Ok, and the bar queue was shorter there too!
The Best Mobile Application category soon came up and unfortunately we lost out to the very worthy Truphone application for the iPod Touch. Other categories raced by and as the winners list was building with the likes of the BBC, Channel 4 and big agency guns AKQA, I have to admit our hearts sank a little.
Next up, Best Informational Website. Our team of Paul Seys, Dan Hills, Serena Golding and Angela Barnard refused to tempt fate by venturing downstairs and when ‘Redweb’ was announced as the winner, there was a mass scream of euphoria, shock and amazement as the team sprinted down the stairs and across to the main stage to proudly accept the award.
Cue champagne corks, cigars and group photos in various poses with our shiny trophy. We partied well into the night with acts including the fantastic Beardyman and Addictive TV to keep us entertained as we celebrated our fantastic result and joining that very prestigious hall of fame from the night. I have never seen a piece of silverware clung on to so tightly! And all I can say now is roll on 2010…..
